Today our challenge was organizing and decluttering the countertops in the kitchen. I hope you are seeing lots of progress in your home! I know I am in mine!
I had a sick child home today so I worked on my countertops during nap time. I wish I would have taken before pictures because I completely rearranged my countertops. I decided to create my own breakfast station above the dishwasher (which is usually a hot spot for junk) by moving the toaster from over by the stove. I then moved the Pop Tarts and bread to the pantry cupboard next to the dishwasher. We use our toaster at least 5 days a week so it is an appliance that needs to stay out on the counter.
After I moved the toaster over, I decided to rearrange the microwave and mixer. I just switched where they were (the toaster used to be to the right of the microwave). I’m hoping I will like this set up, we’ll see! By moving the toaster, this did free up a little counter space to cook with by our stove (the other side is the sink and I hate it because there isn’t enough room!) I use my mixer several times a week as well (plus it is heavy) so it also stays on the counter. Any appliance besides the toaster, mixer and microwave gets put away because those are all we use that often.
During this process, I decluttered several decor items that will be going on our garage sale in April. By organizing what I love and decluttering what I don’t, I’ve been really enjoying my working areas more. I hope you are having that feeling as well!
I finished by going through the mail, putting Jason’s paperwork stuff he keeps on the counter into a tote and wiping down the appliances and counters.
What is your favorite tip for keeping your kitchen counters organized and decluttered?
