Whoo! Today’s organizing and decluttering project was intended to take 30 minutes. I got a little excited and really dug deep through our entire porch which took 3 hours (after already vacuuming Sunday)! I’m so happy it’s over but also that it is clean! I have 5 EMPTY totes after my work today! That’s a lot! Most of it is getting donated or sold but there was also 2 trash bags that went to the dumpster!
Today I focused on our ever-present problem of numerous shoes, toys, picking up gloves, hats, and stray cold weather items, and cleaning out our storage closet. I started with our bench (which I’m horrified to show you this picture except for the top mess I added while I was cleaning out the storage closet so it actually wasn’t quite that bad before I started…still so embarrassing!)
I’m very happy to show you the after picture of the bench right away to get the clutter picture out of your head…I hope!
I then moved to the storage closet. This was what took me the longest but I’m so happy with how it turned out! Before I started organizing and cleaning this part of the closet, there were 2 totes that were heaping with junk. I’m loving the cleared out look!
I then moved to the other side of the closet where there are 4 shelves and 3 drawers. The top box has some cleaners in it that I don’t want the kids to be able to get into. On the 2nd shelf from the top, the sand bucket has sand toys inside of it that they play with in the summer and the box has supplies for when we smoke meat on our smoker grill. The next shelf are items that I use but don’t use enough to warrant keeping in the kitchen. I have canning supplies on the left and my double Crockpot on the right. The bottom shelf is my Sam’s Club storage for food storage supplies that I don’t have room for in the kitchen. Before I had vases in this closet, junk that needed thrown away, bug spray for in the summer (which is now in a box with other pesticides on the very top of the closet so no children can get near).
Here is a picture of the top of the closet. All of the chemicals that I want to keep away from the kids are on top of this cupboard which is very tall.
