Our family loves snow ice cream. This morning we woke up to a nice blanket of fresh, white snow. Immediately the kids started asking to make their favorite snowy treat…snow ice cream! With 5 kids, there are different tastes so we have adapted the original vanilla recipe to fit the needs of everyone adding chocolate and also mixing the two together to make a fun “twist.”
Vanilla Snow Ice Cream:
4 cups fresh snow
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. sugar
In a large bowl, combine the snow, milk, vanilla, and sugar. Mix together until you get an ice cream consistency and serve! Easy and quick! If you aren’t going to eat it immediately put it in the freezer because it melts quickly!
For those in the family that are chocolate lovers (myself included) here is the recipe for Chocolate Snow Ice Cream (and it is REALLY good!)
Chocolate Snow Ice Cream:
4 cups fresh snow
1 1/2 cups milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. sugar
5 tbls. hot chocolate mix (We buy Swiss Miss in the big can from Sam’s Club so this was easy to measure and was delicious!)
In a large bowl, combine the snow, milk, vanilla, sugar, and hot chocolate mix. Mix together until you get an ice cream consistency and serve! Easy and quick! If you aren’t going to eat it immediately put it in the freezer because it melts quickly!
Twist Snow Ice Cream Recipe:
To please the twins who love to get twist ice cream cones at restaurants, I took their cups and added the vanilla snow ice cream until the cup was half full, then added the chocolate on top of the vanilla until the cup was about full. We grabbed a straw and “twisted” it together. By this time the ice cream was getting slightly melted so it wasn’t a perfect “twist” but they loved it anyway! We also have added sprinkles which made the ice cream extra fancy as well!
WOW, I’ve never heard of such a thing … very neat!!
This is such a fun idea! My 3 year old was asking me just today if we can go the ice cream shop. I told her all of the ice cream shops are closed for winter BUT if mother nature provides us with more snow we will open our own ice cream “shop” in the front yard!
If she’s anything like my kids, she will love snow ice cream! I hope you get to try it! 🙂
We had a chance to try it and both my girls absolutely love it! With more snow predicted to come our way soon I am going to share this idea on my blog with the link-back to you. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Oh I’m glad! My kids do, too! We were supposed to get up to 8 inches this weekend and haven’t gotten any (which is fine with me!) It’s still bitter cold though. Thanks for coming back and letting me know! 🙂
Wow, this sounds interesting; I’m sure the kiddos love this!
This will be such a great memory for your children.
Thanks for sharing via Mommy Monday!
XOXO
I love snow ice cream! I’ll take a twist please!
I think we have enough snow for this today!
When my siblings and I were little, our parents couldn’t afford to buy ice cream, so our dad would make this exact thing every winter. It was so fun! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
My kids would love this, but we don’t get much snow in the winter.
Thank you for stopping by the Thoughtful Spot Weekly Blog Hop this week. We hope to see you drop by our neck of the woods next week!
This sounds amazing! I wish I lived where it snowed enough to make this. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve tired this with my son and he LOVES it…the best part of a snow storm. Stopping by from #MommyMondayBlogHop
We rarely get enough snow in Alabama to make “snow cream” (as my mom called it). So I never learned to make it; it was a mystery to me. ha. Glad to see it doesn’t sound too difficult!
I think I’d rather not have to deal with snow
