It’s update time! In 3 days of decluttering and organizing, the result is a room renewed! The clutter is gone! Our belongings are organized! I’m so happy to have a room in my house that looks great and I can truly relax in!
I started my closet decluttering with the floor. Fortunately, before we went on vacation in January, I had cleaned the closet in order to find my summer clothing for the trip. I grabbed a few shirts that had fallen off of the hangers and hung them back up. Vacuuming was next. I’m not sure why a vacuumed closet makes me happy but I think it’s because it’s a very rare occasion when I do vacuum out my closet, it means my room is looking lovely.
After the floor was clean, I started with Jason’s clothes. It’s always easier for me to do his clothes than it is mine. I quickly grabbed all of the hanging items and laid them on our bed. I arranged them by color and by type of shirt and hung them back up. He had a tote of clothes stuffed in the closet that hasn’t been used for probably 3 years or more and I took the entire tote and am going to sell it on Facebook (minus his favorite memory t-shirts…you know concerts, car races, football games, etc. I’m going to have to make him a t-shirt quilt out of those!)
After his clothes, I did the shelves that separate his clothing from mine. We don’t keep much on those shelves because they are hard to access. It didn’t take long organizing the shelves and it was on to my clothes.
I went through the same process I did with Jason’s. I found a few dresses that I know I won’t wear again, several shirts that had sequins missing, or had a small stain on them and threw them in the rag pile. I also took out some sweaters that I haven’t worn this winter and put them in the donate pile because I figured they weren’t going to be worn this winter and it’s time for them to get out of the closet. All in all, I am very happy with my organizing and decluttering effort today. Our closet is so narrow that after it has some clothes in it, it is so hard to move. By removing what we aren’t using any more, we will have a little more room in there.
