31 Days Of Decluttering In December: Day 15 Update

December 15, 2013 by Jenny Leave a Comment

Today’s challenge was to spend some quality time with those people that you love!  I think today’s challenge was perfect for a Sunday.  We have had a very fun day as a family.  Some of my plans changed a little but here’s how I had today planned out:

  • Go to church
  • Play a game with my older son.  He asked me yesterday and I didn’t have time right then.  It’s been bothering me since.
  • Read Thumpy Feet and Pete The Cat with the 4 younger kids.  They are their favorites.
  • Bake a batch of Christmas cookies (I’ll post recipe and pictures later!)
  • Take kids to the library.
  • Visit extended family.

Here’s what we actually did today:

  • Go to church  A very small tidbit I took away from church that I thought applied to all of us is how we set expectations and all desire “the perfect Christmas.”  This can lead to anxiety, depression, and discontentment ruining the holidays.  There is no such thing as the perfect Christmas!  Please keep that in mind as the season is quickly approaching!
  • Play a game with my older son.  He asked me yesterday and I didn’t have time right then.  It’s been bothering me since.  We actually played with all 3 middle kids and had a fun time.  It’s fun to see them learning how to actually understand how a game is played with taking turns, not getting mad when you don’t win and being a good sport.
  • Read Thumpy Feet and Pete The Cat with the 4 younger kids.  They are their favorites.
  • Bake a batch of Christmas cookies (I’ll post recipe and pictures later!)  Well…kind of!  I had promised my older son that we would make snowball cookies today as they are his favorite (and mine too!)  After I spoke to my mom this morning on our way to church, she had already mixed them up and had them ready for the kids to decorate when we got to her house.  So I didn’t bake them but the kids still got to decorate and eat them.  I’ll put up the recipe and pictures this week.
  • Take kids to the library. We ran out of time before the library closed but will go later on in the week.
  • Visit extended family. We had originally planned on going to visit my mom today and the kids were going to help put up the ornaments I made when I was a little girl on the tree.  The kids decided once we got there that they wanted the afternoon with Grandma to themselves so they could wrap birthday presents for me and make me birthday cards.  They sent Jason and I off to run a few errands while they wrapped and made the cards, decorated the tree AND they decorated cookies!  That was a lot of fun packed into 2 hours!
  • Visit extended family.  We also are going to visit Jason’s parents as soon as I’m done writing this post for supper and to put up Grandma’s Christmas village.  We haven’t been over there for a few days and they are all missing Grandma and Grandpa.

After looking at our day, I’m thinking how blessed are we to have Grandma’s so close we can visit them both on one day and have so much fun?   I hope  you were able to enjoy spending some intentional time with someone that you love!  I’m excited to hear what you did together to create some memories.  Leave me a comment and let me know what was your favorite part of today!
