Good Morning! We have made it to Day 4 of our 31 Days Of Decluttering In December challenge! I hope you are enjoying these challenges and seeing some positive results in your own home! If you have missed a day, the previous challenge links are at the bottom of this post! Today I’m ready for a challenge with a BIG result. I’ve stuck with smaller challenges so far this week so it’s time for something a little more difficult.
Today’s challenge is decluttering and cleaning your entryway. This is meant to be a 30 minute challenge so don’t drag everything out and not be able to get done in 30 minutes. Set a timer and work as quickly as you can!
Yesterday I told you about how I keep our recycling on our porch and that’s what everyone sees when they come into the house. We only use one entrance into our house and being a farmer, Jason tracks in a lot of dirt and mud. The kids use it as a dumping ground for their shoes, sporting equipment, backpacks, and about everything else they bring into the house. As you can see in the picture below, we have everything from flip flops to rain boots, to sneakers, to cowboy boots (and even a package of water balloons!) (As much as I despise cold weather, I’m kind of looking forward to all the summer shoes and water balloons being put away!)
Here are some specifics that I am focusing on during my 30 minutes:
- Shoes- they’re everywhere! 7 people with 2 pairs of shoes is 14 shoes laying around. We have way more than that and there are many that simply need to go into the trash because they are worn out.
- Vacuuming- Our 4-year-old loves to feed the cats outside in the morning. However, he hasn’t mastered getting the cat food out of the bag without spilling some on the floor on his way outside.
- Coats, Hats, Gloves, & Scarves- The weather is changing and now these items are all over the floor, in places they shouldn’t be and need to be organized..
- Toys- All toys will be removed from the entryway and put away where they belong.
