How many times in your spiritual walk have you found yourself needing guidance or wish you had someone that you trust to talk about a problem you were having? Over the last few years, I’ve become more intentional about reading and studying the Bible and I’ve became very interested in what it takes to be a Titus 2 and Proverbs 31 woman.
One of the ways we are called to serve God is by mentoring other women. In Titus 2:4 wise women are told to train the younger women, also known as mentoring.
Have you ever thought about being a mentor or by being mentored by another woman?
I remember going off to college and wishing I had an older sister who had gone through Maybe you have just gotten married and a mentor could help you understand the changes between being a single woman and a married woman. If you just had your first child, wouldn’t it be wonderful to have someone who has experience she can share with you?
Some of the benefits of having a mentor include:
- A spiritually mature mentor will help you grow into a Godly woman by showing you love and grace.
- A mentor will pay attention to what is happening in your life and will help you stay accountable when you are off track.
- A mentor will pray with you and for you.
- A mentor has grown into the woman she is and she can guide you with resources to help you grow.
Titus 2 women can be hard to find! It seems everyone has their own “stuff” going on and it’s hard to find someone who will put themselves out there to help you. If you have felt this way, here are a few tips for you when searching for a mentor:
- Pray- Ask God for help finding the right mentor for you.
- Attend Bible studies with women of all age groups.
- Read- There are many authors who can guide you with their books. Authors such as Sally Clarkson and Elisabeth Elliot offer great wisdom in their books. I have read many of Sally’s books and have considered her a “mothering” mentor for a long time!
- Once you have a mentor, listen to her. Respect her and ask her questions. Use her experience as a guide for your growth!
Do you have a mentor? If you do, how did you establish that relationship? Do you know someone else that would be blessed by you mentoring them?

I am blessed to have a few mentors that are either members of my family or women I have met through church or my community. I work with the youth in our community so I always try to make myself available to mentor anyone God may put in my path. Thanks for the post!

As I got to the end of this post, I looked back and counted three such women: one in my single days, one in my earlier married days, and one now. How about that? God has brought these women into my life at just the right time, and I’m so grateful for them!

That is awesome! 🙂 God is so good! Thanks for visiting!

I love this and it is so true! I’ve been attending a book/Bible study with some women from church and I mentioned the other day that I LOVE having the range of ages we do there. It’s so important to listen to our elders and to those who have experience.
Thanks for sharing.

This is a great point, so often we, as women, get caught up in everything else, and miss sight of how much we need someone to lean on that will understand how we think (don’t get my wrong husbands, are extremely valuable… but female mentors are different!). I’m so glad you shared this with Salt & Light!

Hello, I come to you from Wake Up Wednesday. I’m one of the cohosts. Thank you for this wonderful post. I have recommended it to be the featured post for next week.
Mentors are so needed. I’ve been through so much in my life that I would not have made it without the love of God. My faith has kept me in the darkest of times.
Please stop by my blog if you have time. I’d love to see you there.
Be blessed!

Jenny, Thanks for sending me this. Titus 2 and Proverbs 31. We could all learn from women who are living out those verses! I agree with one of your readers who posted about attending a Bible study with a variety of ages in it. That is one of the best things I’ve done to find mentoring relationships. Good post!

I’ve been hoping to find a great spiritual mentor for a while now. No one has come along, though…

I have a 10 year old son. the tv and movie options for his age are either too babyish or too adult in humor (and offensive to me as his overprotective mom). We own dvds of the 80’s cartoons He-Man and he actually enjoys those.. the lessons of good overcoming evil at the end are very aligned with the morals that most of today’s programming is lacking. My question is, are there series, shows, etc. out there for this age group that are current? Think of the series”Once upon a Time” or we do like “Avatar (the cartoon series)” for 10-12 year old boys. I am looking for something entertaining, captivating, and age appropriate. Why can’t we challenge our Hollywood industry to do this? He wants to watch Friends on Netflix, for lack of not much else to choose from – which hey, I watched them in the 90s but I was in my mid 20s! Also, he watches this pac man cartoon, and sadly, like most cartoons being made now, they are using rude language, jokes that are cruel, and just many other disappointing language. I am looking for something more substantial than the innane. Please don’t judge me, I don’t let him watch the tv non stop, but it really is difficult to find decent movies or tv shows, or is it I am missing something? any tips you have would be awesome!
