This is Day 1 of a 31 day series on Biblical kindness. You can find the rest of the posts here!
“No act of kindness is ever wasted.” Aesop
When is the last time you were intentionally kind? You know, where you made a plan to do something nice for someone else before you did it.
Perhaps you planned a special birthday party for a friend. Maybe you had a friend who was sad and you sent her favorite flowers to cheer her up. Maybe your child has an awesome teacher and you got her a massage as a thank you not only for being a super teacher but for impacting your child’s life!
How have you felt when you were the receiver of kindness? Has a friend bought you dessert for your birthday or sent you a quick card or text message to tell you they are thinking of you? Has your child drawn you pictures and told you that you were the “BEST MOM…EVER!”
We live in a world where the bad things that happen make the nightly news and top headlines on the internet and newspapers. Every once in a while something really awesome gets a 30 seconds blip of media time but compared to the yuck on the 6 o’clock news the good news is rare.
This is why this series it’s so important to me.
I’m tired of wanting to cry when I watch the news at night. I want my children to see more good in the world, than the bad. I want others to feel love instead of discrimination, hate, sadness, and despair. Kindness is the answer.
I would love for this challenge to blow up everyone’s Facebook feeds with happy news of kindness to others. I’d love to show all of those around us that we can make good happen everyday, not because we want the glory but because we are giving God the glory.
Kindness is mentioned multiple times in the Bible and I chose this passage in Galatians for Day 1 of this challenge because if all of us lived our lives according to the fruit of the Spirit our world would be a much nicer, kinder place.
Today I’m focusing on spreading the fruit of kindness and I’d love for you to join in, however you see fit. If you need a few ideas I’ve listed just a few below. Each day I will list a few ideas but what you do to spread kindness is up to you! The options are limitless but here are a few ideas for today:
- Print (click here) or write out today’s verse on a sticky note or note card from Galatians and put it somewhere that you will see it many times. Each time you see it send a text, Facebook message, email, or write a card and tell someone how they have shown you kindness and thank them for it.
- Pass along this post to your friends through Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest to spread kindness to me (thank you!) and by spreading the message of kindness throughout the world!
- Leave a quarter in a gum ball machine. Every time we go to our favorite Chinese place my kids automatically turn the crank hoping for something to come out. Imagine their surprise if it actually did because someone had left a quarter in it!
- Send your child’s teacher a note thanking him or her for working in your child’s life.
What will you be doing today to show the fruit of kindness working in you? How will you be spreading kindness to others?
