Welcome back to my new series, 31 Days Of Purpose! If you are just joining in, you can find all of previous challenges here!
Today, you will be creating your personal mission statement!
Yes, I know that when most people think of mission statements, they think of large companies and corporations. However, if a mission statement can clarify the company’s vision within the company and community and help a company identify and achieve goals, why wouldn’t you want to design one for your own life?
By creating your personal mission statement you will be defining who you are and what is most important to you. (Aren’t you glad that you already know your passions, values, and strengths?) Your mission statement will help keep you on track to fulfilling your purpose.
This won’t be a quick process and might take several tries to get it perfected. However, since you already know your passions, values, and strengths, you are ready to get to work!
Your personal mission statement will describe you: who you are, your values, the direction you are going, and what you want to do personally and professionally. Your mission statement is powerful because you can ignore opportunities that do not fall within your guidelines. Mission statements change as you do. Be prepared to tweak yours! When your mission changes, it means you have changed.
- To begin, think about your ideal week. What would need to happen for that ideal week to happen?
- Grab your notebook and list out your top 5 passions, your top strengths (when your mission and strengths are combined, you will have more success) , and your top values (because your mission must be important to you).
- Finally write or type out your personal mission statement. Let this statement guide you when you need to make important decisions, set goals, or aren’t sure about a new opportunity!
If you are having a hard time getting started on your own personal mission statement, Joelle Charming has a great FREE template you can download!
If this doesn’t come easy to you the first time, don’t give up! Keep working at it!
