Now that you have your December Bucket List finished, it’s time to get to work on the house! I hope you are as excited as I am to have a clean home ready to celebrate the holiday season!
Thanksgiving is behind us and I’m sure many of you have either gotten your holiday decorations out or will be soon. Do you have a lot of decorations and holiday or seasonal items that you don’t use? Do you have boxes of decorations that you don’t even get out of storage anymore because you have replaced them with something else? Why are you holding onto this stuff?
There are some costs of keeping things we don’t need or that are broken:
- It costs us in time with dealing with the stuff, even if it’s moving it out of the way to get to what we do need.
- It costs us the amount of space it takes to store it.
- The clutter keeps us from finding what we do need, so we buy duplicates of items we already have.
Today’s decluttering challenge is to take 15-30 minutes and go through your seasonal and holiday items and remove what you will no longer be using. This list can be broad, but don’t get overwhelmed! Do what you can, a little is better than nothing at all. If you have extra time and aren’t finished keep going! The list is quite broad and you can go throughout your home searching for more of these items!
As you are doing this, I want you to think about what you need to throw away because it’s unusable or broken, what you can donate (and where you will donate it to) and what you can sell to earn some extra money.
I love this part of the challenge because there are women just like you and I who would love to have these things we are no longer using. Some places where you can help these women are shelters or local churches who can give your things to families that need them and that will cherish them.
Here are some items to think about letting go of to bless someone else:
- Christmas Trees (How many do you have? Have you upgraded to an LED lit tree?)
- Wreaths
- Garland
- Ornaments
- Nativity Scenes
- Christmas Lights
- Outdoor decorations
- Seasonal Items- Sleds, Extra Blankets, Heaters, Hats, Gloves, Coats, and Scarves
- Wrapping Paper
- Extra Scissors, Tape, Bows, and Ribbon
- Stockings
- Christmas Books, CDs and Movies
- Bibles
I’d love to know, what have you found today to declutter? Are you donating it? In my home, I have found some Christmas lights to donate, some that needed thrown away because they no longer work, and many decorations to bless someone else with!
