Slowing Down To Live A “Slow Life”

October 13, 2015 by Jenny 2 Comments

If you are rushing through every task to get to the next thing on your to-do list without doing anything you are passionate about, you are missing out on life. If you eat standing up and eating on the run to get things done instead of sitting down with your family, you are missing out on important conversation. Without exercise, your health suffers. Without quiet, the world becomes a noisy gong. Lots of noise and nothing else.

Welcome back to my new series, 31 Days Of Purpose!  If you are just joining in, you can find all of previous challenges here!

When was the last time your family enjoyed a meal together, or you took a long walk, or you sat in silence with no television, music, or background noise blaring in your ears?  When was the last time you sat down to play a game with a child, read a book that wasn’t required, or worked on a hobby?

Why has it been a long time since you’ve done these?  Are you too busy?  Too rushed?

If you are rushing through every task to get to the next thing on your to-do list without doing anything you are passionate about, you are missing out on life.  If you eat standing up and eating on the run to get things done instead of sitting down with your family, you are missing out on important conversation.  Without exercise, your health suffers.  Without quiet, the world becomes a noisy gong.  Lots of noise and nothing else.

Slowing down is essential to live a healthy life!  Slowing down is also essential to live a slow life!

I recently heard the concept of slow food when I read Tsh Oxenreider’s Notes from a Blue Bike: The Art of Living Intentionally in a Chaotic World.  The concept of slow food combines locally grown whole foods with food that is good for your body, soul and mind.  When it’s served and eaten the meals are to be appreciated.

I really appreciate this concept (especially as a wife of a farmer) but in regards to living with purpose, I’m changing it from slow food to slow life, where all of our actions revolve around what is good for our mind, body, and soul.

Obviously no one can apply that concept 100% of the time, but what if we tried twice a week by implementing small changes to live a slow life?  Changes such as getting the amount of sleep that is best for our bodies, exercising by taking a bike ride with our family, or engaging activities that are good for our relationships and minds like playing a family game of scrabble?  What if we intentionally focused on reading books that are good for our soul or nourishing our bodies with real food and not junk?

Your challenge today is to find just a few simple ways you can incorporate into your own version of living a slow life.  Each week try to apply a new way to add some “slow life” into your routine.  I’d love for you to share in the comments one way you are incorporating slow life into your lifestyle.  I know you will be inspiring to other women reading this post!

Have you enjoyed what you read here today?  Do you have friends or other women you know that could benefit from this resource?  If so, please do me a favor!  I have included the links below to share with other intentional women!  They’ll be glad you did!

This post is in line with changes I’m really trying to implement into my life. I’ve been developing habits starting with morning devotions, exercise, and I’m currently decluttering so I can simplify our life even further.
