Have you ever tried to find one word that you are using as your motto for an entire year?
One Word 365 is just that!
I love the beauty of One Word 365. It’s simple, basic and can be life changing!
The basic concept of One Word is to choose one word to focus on for a year. This word is your personal theme of the year. That’s it. Simple, don’t you think?
This concept works well for people who love to set goals and for people who hate to set goals! In other words, it works for everyone!
For those of you who don’t like goal-setting, having one word is a super easy way to stay on track without the extra planning!
For those of you who love to set goals, using your one word gives you a common theme in all areas of goal setting.
I’m a futuristic thinker (sometimes to a flaw) and very intentional about what I’m pursuing in life so goal setting comes naturally to me but I realize not everyone thinks that way.
This is the 4th year I’m participating in of One Word. In the past my one words have been: intentional, present, and savor.
This year, my top 3 words were create, focus, and delight. I also prayerfully considered listen and connect.
For 2016, I chose delight as my one word.
When I think about delight I see the smile on my daughter’s face when she graduated from vision therapy. I see my son’s joy beaming when his lost cat was found, my daughter’s pride of a straight A report card, and my husband’s face when our daughter was born.
Delight is more than happiness. The dictionary defines it as a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment; joy; rapture; or something that gives great pleasure.
Life is chaotic, demanding and hard, sometimes it’s easier to let our experiences or other people’s attitudes diminish our delight.
My goal is to capture as many delightful moments that I can, to write them down in my delight jar and treasure them.
I’m looking forward to the delight that God, my family, and blogging brings in 2016!
I really want to include more Scripture into my daily life so I found 12 verses about delight. I’m planning on memorizing one per month by Bible journaling, putting it in my planner so I see it multiple times a day and placing that verse around my home.
I’m starting January with Psalm 37:4 “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart”. You can see the other verses that relate to my One Word 2016, delight here!
Would you like to join me on this journey in 2016? You can capture your One Word however you like.
I would love to know what your One Word is and if you have ever had one before!

What a fantastic idea! I have never done this before, but can see the benefits of having one word to keep you focused. My word is ‘Achieve’ – I have a lot that I want and have to achieve this year and this will help to keep me on track and focused all 365 days. I hope you have a delightful year 🙂
