Have you ever had “one of those moments” where you knew in your heart you had made a great decision? A defining moment where you knew you would remember that event and it would make a difference in your life?
When Jason and I started getting serious in our relationship and began talking about getting married we realized that we needed to find a church that was right for our family.
At that time I lived in a community over an hour away so that wouldn’t be an option when the kids and I moved to our new community.
The first time we attended our church, we took the 4 kids with us to the service instead of sending them to Sunday school. We didn’t know anyone who attended that church and felt more comfortable having everyone with us. David had just turned 1, Blake and Nora were just 3, and Maddie was 7.
Needless to say, it was a long time for them to sit. As the service was wrapping up three out of four kids were crying, whining, and totally restless.
One of the elderly women in front of us turned around and whispered to Jason, “Bless you for bringing your babies to church!”
That was our defining moment of knowing we were at the right place.
There have been multiple moments after that have confirmed this such as when we later got married in that church how David ran straight to Jason’s arms as the ceremony was beginning, how the church installed a slide for the kids to slide down to Sunday school and AWANA, how we connected with other girls and moms to form a Moms and Tweens group, how they contacted us about dedicating Arianna when she was born, and how numerous strangers brought food to us when she was born (that are now some of my mentors), and how we have had a great couple become our marriage mentor inviting us into their lives.
All of these were strangers who invested their time, energy, and resources into us. How awesome is that? For those of you who have a chance to be a mentor to others, please do it! It really can change lives!
