One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood.
~Lucius Annaeus Seneca
Do you consider yourself a woman who makes friends easily? Do you have many friends that you pal around with or are you more of a “best friend” who has one great friend?
Throughout my life, I’ve always considered myself more outgoing than shy. However, after having kids, moving, and starting over in a new area I have found myself in a new place…it’s harder to make friends as an adult! Between trying to keep our household running and being a good wife to my husband, I’ve found myself in a new place, not much time for new adventures and even when I do have time, where do you meet new friends?
I’ve noticed that many adult friendships are formed around groups you are already in. Bible study, women you work with, and women you meet at the gym can become friends. You can also make friends with the moms at dance class or sporting events that you get to know while waiting for your child. If you are a parent, many friendships begin because of your kids. The kids make friends and you become friends with their parents. (I have been really lucky that our kids’ friends have some really great families.)
We were made to be sociable people (even if we’re shy). Friendship is important! Friends keep us laughing, share important milestones, and help us work through problems. They offer support during hard times. Part of living a healthy, intentional life involves making and maintaining healthy friendships.
So my question for you is, how do you make time for your friendships? Are you spontaneous? Do you plan out a few times a month that work to get together? My goal today is to offer encouragement to the woman who is searching for new friends, to give her ideas of places to meet friends and ideas of what to do when you are together.
Do you find it hard to make new friends? What encouragement do you have for the other women reading this? For those of you who have a great friends group, how did you meet and what do you like to do together? Please share your tips!
Have you enjoyed what you read here today? Do you have friends or other women you know that could benefit from this resource? If so, please do me a favor! I have included the links below to share with other intentional women! They’ll be glad you did!
