I hope you have been enjoying the challenges for our 31 Days Of Decluttering In December! If you need to catch up you can find all of the challenges here.
It’s two weeks until Christmas. As much as I love Christmas, the spirit of the season, and what Christmas represents, it’s important to remember that the holidays can be hard. Really hard. For those who suffer from depression, or are spending a first Christmas without someone they love, or who suffer from mental illness, the holidays can be almost unbearable. For those of you who are recently separated or divorced or those of you who are parents that won’t be having your kids with you on Christmas morning, it can be heartbreaking.
I want us all to take a few minutes today to be better people. We need to rise up and embrace those who are hurting. Todays challenge is decluttering your heart.
Each day we are bombarded with bad news, whether it is on television, the internet, Facebook, or the newspaper. If you are anything like me, sometimes all of that bad, sad, or depressing news makes your heart hard. You start to tune it out. We are all busy women with hectic schedules and sometimes we forget that our friends and family have their own heartbreak, trouble, and sadness.
Today is a day to put our own issues on the back-burner and be light to someone else by decluttering your heart. Today is a day we are allowing ourselves to feel someone else’s pain by being sympathetic and empathic.
How should we do it? Here are a few ideas (and I can’t wait to know what you come up with):
- Challenge yourself to do a certain amount of random acts of kindness. These acts can be for those who are suffering that you know or for strangers.
- Send a friend an encouraging text.
- Bake cookies to share with someone who needs a smile.
- Challenge yourself to smile at strangers.
- Visit an elderly neighbor.
- Challenge yourself to ask someone how their day is, give that person eye contact, and listen without judgment.
- Does someone you know need a hug, a meal, a kind card with encouraging words, or help with a project that they can’t do themselves?
- If someone you know is spending Christmas without a loved one, invite them to spend the holiday with you
These are just a few ideas.
