5 Things I Love This Week

July 14, 2015 by Jenny 2 Comments

What was your favorite memory last week? If you are like me you have a hard time remembering what happened 2 hours ago let alone 5 days ago!

This summer has flown by without us being able to really appreciate all the good things that have happened so I am being intentional about noticing what’s going on around us this week in my 5 Favorite Things!

What was your favorite memory last week? If you are like me you have a hard time remembering what happened 2 hours ago let alone 5 days ago!

Nora’s vision therapy, preparing for fair, and building our new home have taken up so much time but have all been once in a lifetime experiences that we’ve tried to treasure.  It’s been eye opening and almost unbelievable to see how far Nora has came in a few months of therapy. When we started she wasn’t tracking a pencil going back in forth in front of her without moving her head.  Now she’s noticing things landmarks as we drive somewhere in the car and is far more aware of what’s going on around her than ever before.  We have a long way to go and it’s been a lot of work (that isn’t always fun) but the journey has been the right one for helping Nora.

The kids go back to school in one month and I’m determined make these last few weeks fun.

Here are the 5 things I love this week:

  1. The park!

We have had a lot of fun playing at the local parks while we are waiting for one of Maddie’s extracurricular activities or have a gap between appointments. Today the kids spent 45 minutes on the merry-go-round pretending that they were each on a race horse.  Life’s simple moments can bring so much pleasure if we take the time to notice.

  2. Our new hamburger press!

A few days ago we tried out Jason’s new hamburger press.  I have always been pathetic at pattying hamburgers.  Not only did his hamburger press make enormous burgers (we filled them with cheese in the middle) but the 2 burgers we grilled fed all 7 of us!  This Stuffed Burger Press is very similar to the one we have and gets fantastic reviews for under $10!  What was your favorite memory last week? If you are like me you have a hard time remembering what happened 2 hours ago let alone 5 days ago!

  3. Brotherly love!

My boys are very close in age and interests.  This can lead to fun and fights.  One is physical, one isn’t and both are very sensitive.  This was at the park the other day and Blake was surprising David at the bottom of the slide by tickling him and making him laugh.  Special moments like this melt my heart.

  4. It’s school supply season!

I have a massive addiction for all notebooks, pretty pens, planners, and office supplies so school supply season is like Christmas!  I seriously need to stay out of the stores because it’s almost a given that I will be purchasing something new and fun.  As I’ve been applying the KonMari method of decluttering, my office supplies are one of my hardest categories to get rid of because I love them all!

  5. Kids on the farm!

My kids love living in the country and helping out with animals, helping Jason in the tractor, and being outside. Last week Jason started irrigating our pivot corners and the kids were so excited to help. As you can see, Blake lost a flip flop in the mud (it was recovered) but part of the fun is that it’s so hot and the water is so cold. It feels heavenly and the boys love to “work” while getting to play in the water!

Your boys remind me of mine. They are usually best of friends but occasionally they get a little too close and get on each other’s nerves. I caught a special moment too yesterday. It was really quiet in their room. I walked in and they were quietly playing a card game on the top bunk.
I am also a school supply addict. Ha ha. The worst part is that I penpal and I’m a teacher so I can justify having all of these items, even though I already have WAY too much stuff. Good luck!
You’re the 3rd person I’ve read this week who has mentioned the decluttering book. I may just have to pick that up.
