Not long ago on Facebook, I posted this photo that I took at my daughter’s vision therapy office. Part of her therapy is that she is assigned to do the 20 minutes of reading a day, 5 days a week. Because of that we’ve been reading a lot of books (which is great). I know many of you are moms and grandma’s so just in case you need some ideas to read to your littles, here are 5 books we’ve enjoyed this week to look for on your next visit to the library.
1. Motor Dog
This was a book that I grabbed at the library on the way out simply because of the jet pack (I know…great criteria)! I read this out loud to the younger kids last night and they all liked it! The highlight is what “Motor dog’s” name changes to in the end because it is a special puppy name at our house. Both boys (7 & 6 years old) loved it!
2. Kit an American Girl (6 Book Set)
Nora (7 years old) chose Kit at the library last week and I was excited! I have always enjoyed the original American girl books (Kirsten, Felicity, Molly, Samantha, etc). Maddie read through all them a few years ago and we had some really fun conversations about how life was for those girls. Nora’s not quite at the reading level that she can read all of the words so I’m going to have to help her which will be fun for both of us.
3. Nancy Drew 45: the Spider Sapphire Mystery
Maddie (12 years old) has read through almost all of the Nancy Drew series so I’m always surprised when she finds one that she hasn’t read yet.
4. I Love Perfect Puppies and Cute Kittens
Ari (4 years old) loves anything that relates to cats and dogs. The kids enjoyed this book because it has facts about different breeds and fun facts that they enjoyed learning about. (They also really want a dog so this was like a wish book!)
5. The True Story of the Three Little Pigs
We love this story. The kids think it’s hilarious and they all sit and listen to this story! I definitely recommend this one!
Have you read any of these books before? What good books have you read this week?
Welcome to Women With Intention Wednesdays!
Welcome back to another great week of community building and support for one another!
Oh ladies, we had some fantastic posts last week! This week’s featured post comes from Brittany at Equipping Godly Women with The Absolute Best Marriage Advice I’ve Ever Heard. This was the most read post of the party and if you are married or are thinking about getting married, this is definitely something you should consider!
Thank you all for giving me such great posts to read each week! Keep them coming!
Here is what you will find at Women With Intention Wednesdays:
- This is a link up party where you come to encourage one another, have fun, and share your best posts to help women live their best life!
- In other words, any post that you have written about Christian living, homemaking, relationships, healthy living, living a frugal life or that helps another woman can be included in this link up! Please just them family friendly (I reserve the right to remove anything that I feel isn’t appropriate).
- This link up is beneficial for every woman! Whether you are a blogger or a reader, this is one you won’t want to miss! I’m very excited to offer this link up as a place to not only build new relationships between bloggers but also by providing an awesome resource of information for my readers!
Here are the rules of this link up:
- You must link directly to your post (no homepages, please).
- Please link up no more than 2 posts each week and please do not link up the same post week after week.
-
For every link you add, please visit the link before you and one other of your choice. If your links are consecutive visit the blogger before you and your choice for the 2nd link. It’s impossible to build relationships when no one communicates! Please don’t link and run!
- By linking up you give me permission to share your posts and photos on this blog and social media. Each week I will choose a featured post. I will only feature and pin your post if you have followed the rules. All features will be linked back to the original source.
- You also give me permission to email you a quick reminder that the party is live. You may opt out anytime. I don’t spam my readers with emails.
- Answer the community building question below so we all get to know each other! That’s the purpose of being here! 🙂
In order to help grow this community with great posts and relationships, I would love it if you would add the party button to your sidebar, your blog directory page, or a text link at the bottom of your post. This isn’t required to participate in the link-up but I would really appreciate it!
If you were featured be sure to grab a button for your site! Thank you for linking up and sharing your great posts!

Community building question of the week: What was one of your favorite toys when you were a child?
I loved my Cabbage Patch Kid dolls. I had several and always played that I had a lot of kids. I was destined to be a mom! 🙂
Melanie Redd says
Thanks for sharing so many great books, Jenny! Reading is such a good practice for us and for our kids. My son, now a senior in college loves to read. His test scores show it!
And, thanks for hosting the weekly link up. It’s been a great way to meet many blogging friends.
Hope you have a blessed day today~
Melanie

Sorry, but I’ve just got to weigh in on the big bad pig book before the toys question — that book is fantastic, it’s a great writing prompt for kids, and I know for a fact that if I sat down with it even TODAY to read it out loud to my grandson, that any of my BIG sons (including his father) would sit down and listen to it with me.
OK, toys when I was a kid: definitely my books and writing and drawing supplies.
Thanks for faithfully hosting us each week — and I do love your questions.
Jenny says
Thanks, Michele! I caught my husband listening in yesterday when I read it to one of the boys. 🙂 Good books are for ages 0-100! 🙂
Brenda says
Oh, takes me back to the days when my boys were little. Those sweet younger books make my heart smile. 🙂 My favorite toy growing up? Hmm, I, too, loved my cabbage patch doll. 🙂 My friends and I also played cards and board games a lot. Uno and battleship being two of my favorites. 🙂 Thanks for the trip down memory lane, and for hosting the linkup today. ((hug))
Jenny says
Thanks for joining in, Brenda! I loved UNO as well, still do! 🙂
Bethany says
Anything animal : ) Hasn’t changed much!!
Jenny says
LOL I have 3 girls that would rather play with animals than dolls. Thanks for linking up, Bethany!
Jenny says
A dolly that was white with blond hair on one side and then when you flipped her over she was black. I actually still have her!
Jenny says
I had a reversible doll that was poor on one side and a princess on the other. That’s awesome you still have yours! 🙂
Kelsey Ferguson says
Great book recommendations! I’m adding them to our library list. 🙂
I had a troll doll that was my absolute favorite. When I was really sick and had to have x-rays, they tech even x-rayed my troll. They gave me the films, too. It’s such a fun memory of a scary time.
Thanks for hosting, Jenny! 🙂
Jenny says
Kelsey, I loved trolls, too! I saw some at Target yesterday in the girls clothing section so guess what our kids will be wanting soon? What a cool think for the doctors to do when they x-rayed yours! Thanks for linking up this week!
Susan Shipe says
My granddaughter loved the Nancy Drew books – she’d read them every summer when she stayed with us. She’s almost 19 now!
Thanks so much for the linkup – glad to join you and the other linker’s every Wednesday!
Jenny says
Thanks for stopping by, Susan! 🙂

I won a book on GoodReads called Gnoman’s Land (http://www.gnomansland.com/). My boys really liked it, mostly because the art work was incredible. It switched between prose and rhyming text so I think it would be good for beginning readers. The author and illustrator also wrote me a nice, personal note on the inside cover so I thought that was really sweet of them too.
Jenny says
I will have to look for Gnoman’s Land at the library. Great illustrations are always fun! 🙂
Joanne Viola says
I found the statistics on reading very interesting so thank you for sharing that! I have already shared with the educators in my family 🙂
Jenny says
I thought the same thing, Joanne! Thanks for linking up!
Stacey Thureen says
Hi Jenny! One of my favorite toys as a child were pound puppies…and just stuffed toys in general. 🙂 Thank you for leading women with intention Wednesdays! Blessings to you
Jenny says
Oh I loved pound puppies, too! I actually found some at Target the other day and now my youngest 2 have them as well! 😉
Pamela says
When my daughters were learning to read they had reading homework every night. It was our favorite part of the evening–cuddling and listening to her reading. I believe it’s one of the reasons they are avid readers today. i’ll have to find the dog and kittens book. My grandson will love it.
Lori Schumaker says
I love love LOVE “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs”! I taught 1st and 2nd grades for 10 years and it was always one of my favorite read alouds! It is a great book to teach perspective and also journalism. We always had so much fun with it!
Thank you so much for hosting #WomenwithIntention each week! I have loved stopping by each week and connecting!
Blessings and smiles,
