How many times have you thought to yourself that you need to get stuff done but just don’t want to do it? If you’re like me, it’s a lot in a day!
Sometimes it’s fine to let those things go because we can’t do everything but what about those nagging tasks that you know you need to do, but really do not want to?
Today I’m going to share a few of my secrets with you!
3 ways I get stuff done when I don’t want to do it:
1. I eat a frog.
A few years ago I read Brian Tracy’s book, Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time. This book had great ideas on how to be more productive and if you haven’t read it and want to have more time in your day, I highly recommend it. The basic idea of the book is that when you look at people who are successful, you will see they don’t try to do everything. They focus on the most important jobs and tasks and make sure they get them one by completing them first. By beginning with the worst task you have first thing in the morning, no matter what happens the rest of the day, you will have gotten something accomplished.
2. I bribe myself with rewards.
I love to read, plan things in my bullet journal, surf Pinterest, and spend time with my family. If I have a job I really don’t want to do such as cleaning bathrooms (I really despise that job!) I will tell myself once they’re clean, I can create a new page in my bullet journal or get on Pinterest for 20 minutes. I reward myself with something that makes me happy and that I enjoy doing. This a good way to include self-care into my day as I get work done, too!
3. Turn on the jams!
This is especially motivating when I want the kids to help me with a job! My kids love anything with a good beat and if I have Meghan Trainor blasting in the background they usually will be a lot more helpful than if the house is quiet and boring. When I put on the music, our jobs turn into a dance party and it’s way more fun that just trudging through another task!
Here are 3 of the ways I get stuff done when I don’t want to do it. On Wednesday I’ll be sharing a few more of my tips and tricks on how I get stuff done when I don’t want to do it. In the meantime, how do you motivate yourself to do those tasks that you don’t want to?
