Summer is quickly winding down and school will be starting again soon. Summer is quickly winding down and school will be starting again soon.  If you have found yourself not being able to get away this year, a staycation is a great way to have some fun while staying close to home!  Staycations are a great way to save money, have a great time, and have less stress while traveling to far away destinations.

Here are 15 great staycation activities for you to try:

1. Visit local museums.

As my children have gotten older we have all enjoyed visiting museums. Whether it’s the children’s museum, a museum about prairie pioneers, or an art museum our family enjoys mixing education and fun!

2. Explore local parks.

Spend a relaxing day strolling through a local park watching birds, squirrels, and wildlife. Don’t forget a picnic lunch!

3. Hike and bike the local trails.

Our community has really invested a lot of money into hike and bike trails.  These trails are a great form of fun and exercise!

4. Spend some time having a personal retreat.

I am craving an afternoon to have my own personal retreat! Whether its a few hours in the local coffee shop, a library, or just enjoying a beautiful hotel lobby take some time for yourself.

Have a good cup of coffee. Set short-term and long-term goals. Read.

5. Visit historical landmarks.

Go back in time while visiting historical landmarks.

6. Attend a concert or play.

Summer is a great time for those of us that love a concert. Find out when there are free plays to attend.  Our community has a children’s play production each summer at a local park. One year it was The Lorax. My kids love taking a blanket, snacks, and enjoying the theatre!

7. Take in a summer movie.

There are so many great movies out, especially if you have kids!
