11 Fun Games To Help Kids With Math

August 12, 2015 by Jenny 15 Comments

Back to school season is upon us! My kids go back tomorrow! In order to keep their brains fresh, we've been playing board games. Board games are a fun way to incorporate learning and fun. My kids are finally at the ages that they can play a game without fighting (most of the time) and really think it's a treat for Jason and I to sit down and play with them.

Here are 11 fun games to help kids with math that we enjoy playing as a family (and I’m sure you will, too!)

1. RACK-O

RACK-O has been a really great game for Nora!  She had problems putting numbers in order and that is the purpose of this game.  I loved playing RACK-O as a child and my kids do, too.  I highly recommend it!  Even Jason will sit down and play RACK-Owith us (and he is not a board game lover)!

2. UNO

Uno  is an old game but a good game.  It’s fast, quick, uses numbers and colors to teach your kids while you are playing!  If your kids are anything like mine, they’ll enjoy ganging up on your with “Draw Two” cards to make you hold about 20 cards!

3. Sequence & Sequence For Kids

Sequence & Sequence for Kids are both fun games.  We have both of them!  Sequence for Kids is fun because your preschoolers can play as well as your older kids.  Maddie enjoys playing regular  Sequence with me and we always have lots of time, especially when we have a card to “steal” the other person’s space!

4. Yahtzee

Yahtzee has always been a family favorite.  Not only do you have to use math skills to figure out your scores, my kids are figuring out how to strategize to get the best score.  Love that!

6. Act Your Wage

Dave Ramsey’s ACT Your Wage! Board Game is a good way to teach your children about money and how to get out of debt!

7.  Sorry!

Sorry! is another game that I recommend for families.  All of my kids can play and they like to play Mom (and beat her…everytime)!

Battleship is the perfect game if you have siblings that enjoy sinking one another’s ships!

9. Monopoly

Monopoly  is Maddie’s favorite game.  She can play literally for hours.  To change it up a little I bought her the Horseopoly game a few years ago for her birthday.  It was also an instant hit.  If you have a horse lover, this is definitely a fun alternative!

10. Dominos

Dominos are a fun pattern game that our whole family enjoys!  Dominos has helped the kids learn patterns and it’s a fun game we all can play together at the same time.

11. Clumsy Thief

This is the only game on this list we haven’t played but after looking at it and reading the reviews, I’ll be ordering Clumsy Thief for Blake and Nora’s birthday.  Here is the description from Amazon:

“Clumsy thieves may be lurking in your own home. This hilarious fast-paced card game has everyone snatching money when they dare! Big moneys up for grabs and every player joins the fun. This game requires strategy, addition skills, luck and a great sense of humor. HOW TO PLAY: Players make money stacks from their dealt cards. Steal a stack if you have a card equaling $100 when added to the top card of a stack. But that’s just the beginning! Thief cards steal money cards. Jail cards stop thief cards. In the end the player who has the most money wins.”

Does your family play any of these games?  Which do you enjoy?

Welcome to Women With Intention Wednesdays!

Welcome back to another great week of community building and support for one another!

Do you feel beautiful?  Do you feel special?  You should!  I’m featuring The Beauty of Being Different that I think we all need to think about by Jenny.  Sometimes I think it’s easier to compare ourselves to everyone else, belittle our gifts, and wish for different talents instead of realizing that God made us beautiful and perfect.  I appreciate each of your beauty and uniqueness in your posts each week and always look forward to the community you bring each week!

Here is what you will find at Women With Intention Wednesdays:

  • This is a link up party where you come to encourage one another, have fun, and share your best posts to help women live their best life!
  • In other words, any post that you have written about Christian living, homemaking, relationships, healthy living, living a frugal life or that helps another woman can be included in this link up! Please just keep them family friendly (I reserve the right to remove anything that I feel isn’t appropriate).
  • This link up is beneficial for every woman! Whether you are a blogger or a reader, this is one you won’t want to miss! I’m very excited to offer this link up as a place to not only build new relationships between bloggers but also by providing an awesome resource of information for my readers!

Here are the rules of this link up:

  1. You must link directly to your post (no homepages, please).
  2. Please link up no more than 2 posts each week and please do not link up the same post week after week.
  3. For every link you add, please visit the link before you and one other of your choice. If your links are consecutive visit the blogger before you and your choice for the 2nd link. It’s impossible to build relationships when no one communicates! I’ve had a few bloggers email me who haven’t had any clicks and there were more last week than any before. Please don’t link and run!

  4. By linking up you give me permission to share your posts and photos on this blog and social media. Each week I will choose a featured post. I will only feature and pin your post if you have followed the rules. All features will be linked back to the original source.
  5. You also give me permission to email you a quick reminder that the party is live. You may opt out anytime. I don’t spam my readers with emails.
  6. Answer the community building question below so we all get to know each other! That’s the purpose of being here! 🙂

In order to help grow this community with great posts and relationships, I would love it if you would add the party button to your sidebar, your blog directory page, or a text link at the bottom of your post. This isn’t required to participate in the link-up but I would really appreciate it!

Community building question of the week: What is one thing you wish you had more time to do?

We’ve been in a season of busyness so if I had more time, I would like to just be.  How about you?

I love Sequence! My family played that all the time when I was growing up. There were six kids so we’d pair off and then Mom and Dad would be a team too. Since it’s only set up for 3 teams and we had 4,the 4th team would use pennies for chips. I can’t tell you how much harder it can be with 4 teams! The board fills up fast…but the laughs we all shared during those games were the best! -Jess, Sweet Little Ones

I play these a good chunk of these games now and I’m not even a kid anymore! Haven’t heard of Racko, Sequence, Head Full of numbers, Act your Wage or Clumsy Thief. I think those would be great games for Sophie when she gets a bit older.

I love games, so do my kids, we’ve played all of them but 5,6 and 11, they must be newer games, my kids are in their teens and early 20s. Sounds like it’s lots of fun at your house!
