We Paid Cash: A New To Us Vehicle

June 9, 2014 by Jenny Leave a Comment

I wasn’t sure that I wanted to publish this post or not because I didn’t want to turn off any of you, thinking I was bragging, especially for anyone who might be struggling financially.  After thinking about it for awhile though, I decided to hit publish because I am hoping it will be a post of encouragement.  If we can do this, so can you (and I’m sure many of you already have)!

I have mentioned in the past that we have been saving for some upcoming purchases in my posts regarding budgeting and goals.  Jason and I dislike debt (especially with vehicles) and this is one of the purchases we have been saving for.  Unfortunately with farming, it is nearly impossible to be debt-free (except for a few months out of the year after harvest when all of the bills are paid off and even then we have loans on land, farming equipment, etc.) because of the large amounts of money required upfront before you ever have any profit. With this said though, we try to keep all other debts to a bare minimum and this includes vehicles.

We Paid Cash: A New-To-Us Vehicle!

We have been looking for a 3rd vehicle for our family for quite awhile.  With 5 kids, anytime my Yukon had to go to the shop, we didn’t have any way of transporting all of the our family legally (or safely) so it was important for us to have a back up for those occasions.  We also despise car payments and want the Yukon to last as long as possible since it is already paid for, so by having a 3rd vehicle that is used but still has a lot of life left (at least we hope so and also has no car payments), we can park the Yukon and use it for our big family trips and hopefully preserve some miles and time before having to buy another expensive vehicle.

By budgeting and saving we were able to pay for this vehicle with cash.  It took time, work, and dedication to complete it.  My hope is for those of you who are struggling with saving, that you feel encouragement.

Have you paid cash for a big expense?  I’d love to include your story to inspire our readers!  You can email me if you’d like to share your story!
