Best Gifts For Babies & Toddlers (Newborn-2 Years Old)

November 24, 2013 by Jenny Leave a Comment

best gifts

Here is my list of best gifts for babies and toddlers (newborn-2 years old).  Some of them are more for babies and some are for 2-year-old kids.  Some of the gifts will last several years and some are more for the moment the child is in.  Just like my best gifts for 3-5  year olds we have owned all of these items and I would recommend them as gifts.

Please check the description and sizes before you’d buy them as a gift to be sure they are appropriate for the child on your list.

Practical Gifts For Young Babies:

Pampers Swaddlers Diapers Size 2 Economy Pack Plus 186 Count

Pampers Sensitive Wipes 7x Box 448 Count

Munchkin 6 Pack Soft-Tip Infant Spoon For a young baby, these were my absolute favorite spoons for feeding little ones.  I like practical gifts so I’m including them on the gift list.

Toys For Young Babies:

The First Years Stack N Count Cups These cups are fun in the bath, for stacking and for playing kitchen.

The First Years Learning Curve First Keys Teether

Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether We had a Sophie for our youngest.  Personally, I probably would  have never purchased one because I’m cheap, but Grandma bought it for her and she absolutely LOVED this giraffe.  It ended up being a gift that I would buy for others after seeing how much she did use it!

 Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Rock-a-Stack

Baby Einstein Caterpillar and Friends Play Gym We had this gym and had 4 babies enjoy it.  They toys come off and I liked that I could grab one and let them play with it in the car seat too.

Books:

Oh, David! A Diaper David Book We have a family member named David so all of David Shannon’s books have been favorites at our house!

BARNYARD DANCE!  Sandra Boynton’s books have been a favorite of all the kids.  Here are are top 3!

 Pajama Time! (Boynton on Board)

 Birthday Monsters! (Boynton on Board)

In My Tree The owl is a finger puppet and for any kids who love owls (I have 3 of them!) this book will be one of the first they grab to read!

That’s Not My Kitten (Usborne Touchy Feely) These were some of our absolute favorite board books.  I included our top 3 Touchy Feely books on this list.

That’s Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy (Usborne Touchy Feely)

 That’s Not My Train (Usbornetouchy-Feely)

Big Board First 100 Machines (Bright Baby) The boys LOVED this book.  It has pictures of real machines (not drawings) and we’d go through each page and name them all.  We also had the next two Bright Baby books and they also were read over and over again!

Big Board Books Colors, ABC, Numbers (Bright Baby)

 First 100 Numbers (Bright Baby)

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (Classic Board Books)

And…The Rest Of The List!

Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Click’n Learn Remote

 Fisher-Price Toddlerz Chatter Telephone

Mega Bloks Big Building Bag, 80-Piece (Classic)

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Corn Popper This popper has brought lots of fun to my children.  If you can’t stand noise though, this is not the gift for you to be buying!

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Baby’s First Doll This doll is soft, easy to put in the stroller below and just the right size to carry around!

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Stroll Along Walker We had this stroller and it was very durable and has a nice wide base for new walkers to push.

Melissa & Doug Jumbo Knob Wooden Farm Puzzle These are great for learning how to do puzzles.  My kids have all loved them!  I’ve given these as gifts to other friends because I know their kids will enjoy them.

Playskool Busy Poppin’ Pals Toy There are several versions of Poppin’ Pals.  This is the one we have and it can be a little tricky for one-year-olds to do this without help but they really enjoy it.  My two-year-old still gets it out sometimes and plays with it (and now she can do all of the buttons herself).

LeapFrog My Own Leaptop – Violet (Frustration Free Packaging) We have the boy and girl version of these and they kids enjoy them.  I think the description of 2-4 years old is appropriate so if you’re buying for a one-year-old you might want to wait a year.

Ball Bounce And Sport Toys Cow Bouncer My 2 and now 4-year-old have these and they have been lots of fun.  We keep them in the house.  We have a white and a black one.  These are great if the kids are too small to bounce on the bigger balls (which the older kids have).  My nephew liked playing on ours so much that he got one as well!

Little Tikes Pillow Racers – Lady Bug My two-year-old has this exact pillow racer and she really started liking it around the age of 2.  It rolls easy on the carpet and is nice and soft except for the plastic handle.  Sometimes she tries to bounce on it like the bouncy cow listed above and I’ve been worried she’d bounce on her feet but she hasn’t done that.

Ertl John Deere Sit-N-Scoot Tractor The twins used these when they were around 1 1/2 years old.  This tractor is not very tall so be sure to check the measurements, especially if you have a bigger child.  I know the age specifications go to age 6 and there is NO WAY a 6 year old could ride on it unless the 6 year old is very small.

Little Tikes Cozy Coupe 30th Anniversary Car  We have the older version of the Cozy Coupe.  We’ve had it for 8+ years, bought it on a garage sale and it is still in excellent condition besides being sun faded.  I know if kids that are too big get inside the wheels can bend but we’ve never experienced this on our own.

Fisher-Price Power Wheels Camo Lil’ Quad  My boy twin got one of these for his first birthday and it lasted through both boys in the house.  It’s not very big so make sure  you check the size description.

We are a big fan of Fisher-Price Little People.  Some of the favorites have been:

 Fisher-Price Little People Noah’s Ark

Fisher-Price Little People Fun Sounds Farm

Fisher-Price Little People Lil’ Movers Airplane

Fisher-Price Little People Disney Princess Songs Palace This is the one toy on the list we do not own, but our local library does.  Each time we go to the library (and we go at least every other week) my 2-year-old plays with this and loves it!  My 5-year-old daughter also loves playing with this when we go there so I think it is a great gift idea.  However, because I told you all that I own all of these toys I wanted to be sure to be honest to tell you that this is the only toy on the list that hasn’t resided in our home at one point or another!

LeapFrog Shapes and Sharing Picnic Basket

What would you add to the best gifts list?  Have you tried any of my best gifts?
