Father’s Day is quickly approaching and some of you might still be searching for a great gift. In our home, Jason is really hard to shop for. He has (for the most part) what he wants and needs so going to the store to buy him something can be difficult. I am a practical gift giver. I try to give people things they can use and not something that takes up space in their home. For Father’s Day this year, we are focusing on thoughtful gifts that are meaningful. Here are a few of the ideas we came up with that you might want to try!
- Write a heartfelt note about what qualities you admire or appreciate about him. This is especially meaningful if his primary love language is words of affirmation. Including small kids in this gift not only will make him feel good but will probably also put a smile on his face.
- Treat him to his favorite hobby. Whether it’s going fishing, playing golf, a new book, or going to a movie. We live in a busy society where hobbies can be put on the back burner. This hobby could be a special time for dad to go golf with his friends or also to take the family out and play together.
- Make his favorite meal or dessert or serve him breakfast in bed! You know the saying- the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach! If cheesecake is his favorite, make him one (or buy him his favorite kind!)
- Let dad take a nap! This might not be the greatest treat for some dad’s but I know this one will be a hit at our home. A quiet relaxing day with a nap is one of Jason’s favorite ways of spending the day!
- Make an “All About Dad” survey and have each child answer the same questions. In our family this can be quite funny when you get everyone’s answers. (You could also include this with his favorite dessert or during a meal for a conversation starter!) Here are a few, fun questions you can ask the kids:
- How old is Daddy?
- What does Daddy do at work?
- My Daddy likes to..
- My Daddy and I like to…
- My Daddy likes to eat…
- I love my Daddy because…
- Daddy helps me…
- Daddy and I go…
What are your favorite simple ways to celebrate Father’s Day? This post was shared at: Mix It Up Monday, Moms The Word,
Treat him to his favorite hobby…that is something I have never thought of. Great idea!!
I love these tips – especially #2 – My husband just had his birthday. One of his favorite things to do is run 5K races. My son and I joined him for a race over the weekend and he LOVED that.
We tend to do all of these!! Yeah, he is one special dad. Most of the time, it is his day, do whatever you want we tell him.
That’s super! Lucky (and blessed) guy!
Wow, is this ever a practical post! The older my kids get, it seems as if it gets more and more difficult to think of things to do for Father’s Day. I love #4, and I think we’ll just get the hammock out, if it’s a nice day, and let him snooze away the afternoon! (After a great dinner with his favorites!)
