Here is the 4th great way to help a new mom!
4. Run an errand or two for her or drive her to her errands.
This tip is short and sweet! After having a new baby, the last thing a new mom wants to do is load the baby up in the car and run errands! Having to get the baby in and out of the car multiple times can be a hassle when you are stopping for a very short amount of time. When my premature twins were born, we were supposed to keep them home and try to eliminate any extra germs coming into contact with them. We were told to stay home from church, community activities, and taking them out in public.
The new mom may not have gotten the okay from her doctor to drive yet after having a c-section. In this case, a great remedy is to offer to drive her where she needs to go and stay with the baby in the car while she takes care of business. My Grandma was a lifesaver at coming along with me on longer errands and staying with the babies in the car while I completed whatever I needed to do.
Here are a few ideas of errands that she may want to take care of :
- getting groceries
- picking up supplies that the other kids need for school or for the house
- getting a hair cut
- picking up packages or mailing packages at the post office
- going to the bank
- getting her teeth cleaned at the dentist
- completing her 6 week postpartum check-up at the doctor’s office
What has someone done for you to help you out? Remembering these from my own babies reminded me just how grateful I was at the time to have great friends and family!
