A question that I’ve been asked each time I’ve had a baby is, “What can I do to help?” I am one of those women who would rather stay up 24 hours a day than ask for help so my response was always, “Oh, we’re doing ok. Don’t worry about it!”
Guess what? Some days, I wasn’t ok. Some days were hard! Being a new mom is a roller coaster of emotions and new responsibilities. Mommy is exhausted! If this isn’t the first baby, the other children still need fed, bathed, and loved. Laundry needs washed, the dishwasher needs unloaded, and everyone still needs to eat!
In order to serve the proud/stubborn/shy whatever describes the mom who doesn’t like to ask for help, here are a few tips to help that she probably will be very grateful for! You will feel blessed by blessing her as well!
1. Bring her a meal.
One of my favorite things about the bible study I belong to, is that these ladies take care of their friends! They are especially wonderful to those who have babies or other stressful events happening in their lives. One blessing they bestow upon these women is by bringing meals that are hot or frozen. After I had my last baby, I was amazed at the kindness of these women! It was truly a blessing to not have to cook for an evening!
Ask the new mom what she prefers and if anyone has any dietary restrictions. Be honest, if you are having a very busy week, tell her that! Then tell her you want to bless her anyway! Ask if you can bring a pizza from Pizza Hut and an order of bread sticks or ask if the following week would be better for her when your schedule isn’t as full. I’m sure she will appreciate not only your honesty, but also the fact that you care enough to still bless her with a meal.
- There are many options. You can bring something hot like a casserole. I have a hamburger noodle casserole that my mother in law shared with me that goes over really well. I take it in a throw away pan so there is no obligation to get my dishes back to me! I also bring some type of vegetable and some type of bread or a fast dessert like brownies.
- My favorite frozen meal is a lasagna, a can of green beans, and a box of garlic bread. The lasagna is in a throw away foil pan. All the mom has to do is put the lasagna in the oven for an hour, heat up the green beans in the microwave and 15 minutes before the lasagna is done throw the garlic bread in the oven too.
Have you blessed a friend with a meal before? What is your favorite meal to take? Comment and let me know!
