Week 1 of this No Spend Challenge is complete. I have to admit, this week it was really hard not to spend money and in some ways I feel like I got to cheat quite a bit! Here’s a recap:
Sunday: Sunday was the first “official” day of fair events even though we had to have all of our projects and animals there on Saturday. Sunday was a lot of fun and my entire family came to watch the kids show their sheep. The kids definitely had a wonderful day with all of the support. That night my dad took the kids to the carnival and they had a great time.
Monday: We were still in the middle of fair and all of it’s crazyness. We were lucky enough to spend the evening with family and friends. Even though I didn’t spend money on carnival ride tickets that day, “Mimi” (my mom’s special name from the kids) treated them to carnival rides and a fun time at the Duck Pond game.
Tuesday: This was the last night of the carnival and Jason’s parents treated the kids to more ride tickets and pony rides. Once again, I didn’t spend but the kids still had a blast. (And yes, they are very fortunate and or spoiled!) We did refrain from any carnival junk food although we did eat lunch at the fair but once again, my in-laws treated us. (See why I felt like I was cheating? I will never do a No Spend Challenge again during the week of fair!)
Wednesday: This was the last day of fair with the auction and clean-up. I did well on not spending until clean-up ran late and it was past 1:00 P.M. and we hadn’t had time for breakfast or lunch. Jason and I were both exhausted and thirsty (plus I developed a cold during fair) so we had a root beer float at the 4-H concession stand to celebrate that we had survived another year!
Thursday: We had a date night but chose to grill steak at home to avoid eating out and had already put money aside for our entertainment that evening.
Friday: This was an important day because it was my mother-in-law’s birthday. We had prepared in advance though so the gifts were already purchased. Once again I was spoiled though because my father-in-law wanted to take us out for supper to celebrate her birthday. (And now you also know why I had a hard time staying on track with my Weight Watcher’s points this week!)
Saturday: My nephew made it to state in Legion baseball (which was awesome) so we went to watch him. The entire family had lunch together afterward to celebrate their win at Texas Roadhouse courtesy of Grandpa. I almost forgot the No Spend Challenge and let myself go in TJ Maxx, (which is one of my favorite stores) but luckily for me and the challenge, I didn’t find anything to buy this time around but did have some fun looking!
Sunday: We went back to the ball tournament (which my nephew’s team lost today but it’s double elimination so they’re back at it tomorrow). We took our own snacks and drinks to save some money but it did cost to get into the ball game. Considering that it is such an honor to play in the state tournament (the last time his team made it to state was 1984) we figured it was definitely an expense that we were willing to incur.
Did you participate in last week’s challenge? There is still a week left (although I encourage you to try it anytime that you want to save some money!)
