It’s the beginning of a new year, which typically means I have chosen my One Word for that year. (Have you ever tried to find one word that you are using as your motto for an entire year? You should try it!)
The basic concept of One Word is to choose one word to focus on for a year. This word is your personal theme of the year. That’s it. Simple, don’t you think?
The last few weeks I’ve really struggled with determining what my One Word should be for 2017. I had several on the list including consistent, productive, rest, success, love, joy, choices, legacy, choices, live, thrive, prosper, and flourish. Flourish was almost my word for 2017 but I kept coming back to one word on the page with all of my notes and scribbles…create.
This is the 5th year I’m participating in of One Word 365. In the past my one words have been: intentional, present, savor, and delight.
Create was a finalist for last year’s One Word (I noticed after I had chosen it for 2017). I am somewhat terrified by my choice because the last few months every time I want to create anything I become partially paralyzed by my perfectionist tendencies and instead of doing anything, choose to not do anything at all. We only get one life, I am choosing to create the life that I want in 2017. (Switchfoot’s “This is Your Life” came on the radio station I was listening to not long after I chose this word and it solidified my choice.)
In 2017 I want to create:
- a peace
- wealth
- passion
- content that you all can’t wait to read
- love
- happiness
- products
- clients
- stronger Christians
- growth
- experiences
- beauty
- and so much more.
So to quote Switchfoot, “this is your life, are you who you wanna be?” If not, what One Word can you use to help you work on getting there? Use that as your anthem for the year.
I would love to know what your One Word is and if you have ever had one before!
Have you enjoyed what you read here today? Do you have friends or other women you know that could benefit from this resource? If so, please do me a favor! I have included the links below to share with other intentional women! They’ll be glad you did!

My word for the year is Full! In 2017 I want to be full of more of His love, spirit, grace, wisdom, and understanding to overflowing. Then I will be able to love those around me in a way that pleases Him, walk daily displaying the fruits of the spirit. I will realize that when I fall short he will give me grace to forgive myself and move on. He will also give me the grace to forgive others and not hold on to things I need to let go of. I also will be able to make wiser decisions when it comes to my business and life in general. I want to be full of understanding so I am able to apply the Word by living it out daily. In order for me to become full of the things of Christ I have to first be willing to empty myself daily of things that are not like Him.

My word for 2017 is “New”. It may seem a little unusual for a focus Word, but from a few days before the new year until even just recently everywhere I looked the word kept coming up. First in scripture, then devotional readings, blog posts, social media. They confirmed what I feel like is only the beginning of what is taking place in my life. so this year I am looking for New!

Love it!
