Guest post from Molly of Golden Femme.
After three long months of winter, I always feel a profound sense of joy when the weather’s warm enough that I can pull heavy sweaters and knee-high boots from my closet to make room for maxi dresses and sandals. It means that spring has finally sprung – and that it’s time for lighter clothing that reveals sun-kissed skin.
After scouring stacks of fashion magazines this season, I’ve learned there are some essentials that every gal should have in her closet. Here are the top six trends you should adopt for your wardrobe for spring.

Polka dots. These fun-filled dots are no longer stuck in the ‘50s. Polka dots are having a huge moment, and they’re packed with retro flavor that will make you stand out as a classy, yet trendy, lady. Try a polka dot flare skirt to fully embrace the trend. Bonus points if you wear it to a vintage diner and order a milkshake while dancing to “Jailhouse Rock.”
Coral and turquoise. This color combination is hot, hot, hot this season! Whether it’s a turquoise necklace paired with a coral tank or a coral scarf worn with a turquoise cardigan, find ways to work this color combo into your wardrobe this season to stay on trend.
Graphic tees. Messy hair, don’t care? Love you truly, madly, deeply? Proud supporter of sweatpants? It’s fashionable to express yourself! Graphic tees and tanks are a must-have this season, whether you’re sporting words or an image, like a cute kitten. Pair graphic shirts with capris, skinny jeans, shorts, skirts or leggings. Speaking of leggings…you absolutely need them for spring!
Printed leggings. Some are adorned with flowers, some are lined with zebra stripes, some are beating with hearts; and some are zig-zagged like lightning bolts. Any material and texture is fine, as long as you’re comfortable. No matter how you wear them, patterned leggings are popular this season. They’ll take you to lunch to yoga class to the grocery store with grace and style.
Bohemian chic. Some call it Bohemian chic, and some call it hippie chick, but the basics are the same. Long, flowy skirts; peasant tops; knit shawls; floral prints; fringe; chunky belts; and ankle booties. A mixture of earth tones and jewel tones. Peace signs and feather charms. If you have a combination of these items in your closet this season, you can easily rock Bohemian chic. Give the look a personal touch by incorporating the clothing and accessories you already own, like that fringed leather vest you wore on Western Day back in 8th grade that still hangs in your closet.
Pretty in pink. From hot pink to baby pink, pink is seriously on trend this season. Pair a denim shirt with a hot pink skirt – or a light pink tank with white shorts or capris – and you’ll look pretty, fresh and feminine. Add a string of pearls to your ensemble to make your look even more classic. Pink evokes sweetness, innocence and vulnerability that is ideal for spring, the season of rebirth and renewal.
No matter what you wear this season, make it yours by including items that you already own. The idea is to add a new piece or two (or six, let’s be honest, shopaholics), then complement your new items with what you already have in your closet to achieve the trend. That’s what makes the trend uniquely you. Happy spring!
