My family saves money each year by going to the library. Here are some of the reasons we love the library.
1. Many Choices
There are thousands of books awaiting our arrival! I have a voracious 10 year old reader (she has a mommy who is one as well). If I had to buy all of the books she reads I’d have to get another job. Being able to check out many books keeps her mind happy and my checkbook happier!
2. Nice Check Out Period
Our local library allows us to check out books for a month at a time which is very nice during the busy times of year when we still love to read but don’t have as much time as we usually do.
3. Interlibrary Loan
When the library doesn’t have a title I want to read, interlibrary loan is a nice resource for obtaining that book from another library. There is a small charge to do this but in my experience, has been cheaper than buying the book used from Amazon.
4. Children’s Programs
Our library has wonderful children’s programs such as preschool story hour, there is a program for kids to read to animals, crafts, and a great summer reading program for children and also one for adults.
5. DVDs & Music
Any age group can enjoy watching DVDs checked out on a library card for a week. There are DVDs for kids, adults, and TV series. My kids have checked out The Muppets, Veggie Tales, Barbie, and Leapfrog DVDs. We have also been able to check out Christmas Sing-A-Longs and other kids music. The music we’ve checked out was loaned for a month!
6. Audio books
Audio books serve many purposes. They are great for listening in the car, during quiet time and before bed. I particularly think they’re wonderful for kids who don’t really like to read but they’re still learning while listening which may eventually lead them to want to pick up another book and read!
Do you utilize your library? Why do you love it?
Love the library! I agree that my pocketbook would be empty if I kept up with mine or my son’s reading. We get to read lots and lots of books and it is all free. We get to keep all of our stuff for 3 weeks- books, DVDs or books on tape/CD. If there aren’t any holds, we can renew online for up to 3 times so it gives forever to get things read. Who needs to buy them when you get anything you want 🙂
