As many of you know, I’m a big advocate of date night with my husband and being intentional in my marriage. I’ve heard many times that others don’t do date nights because they are expensive. That can be true! If you have kids there are babysitters, etc. However by getting creative, there are many options for having a frugal date night. Here are some different ideas on how to manage having frequent date nights without breaking your budget!
1. Dinner & A Movie Night
This is a date you don’t even need to leave the house! Do you have Netflix, use Redbox or have you tried Hulu? These are all alternatives to going to the theater and using these you can watch movies for free or very inexpensively. How about a romantic dinner with candles before a movie and cuddling? Do you like Italian meals how about watching an Italian movie? Be creative!
2. Picnic At The Park
Pack a picnic and go enjoy some time at the park! You can pack a fancy picnic of appetizers or just do sandwiches and chips. The goal is to spend time together! Afterward take a walk, play a game or read a book together!
3. Free Concerts
If you both enjoy music, do some checking in your community for free concerts. Many times in the warmer months, there are free concerts at parks. Churches also have these!
4. Go Out For Brunch, Coffee, An Appetizer, Or Dessert
By skipping the main course you will save tremendously! I know several couples that try to sneak in a coffee or brunch after the kids go to school. Another option is to wait until the kids are in bed and one will order a dessert to go and bring it back home.
5. Work Out Together
We have some friends that are doing P90X together. If you both enjoy working out, do it together! You can encourage each other and stay fit and healthy!
6. Go Bowling
My husband and I enjoy going bowling sometimes as a change in pace to our date nights. Neither of us are very good but we are both very competitive and have a fun time competing. This would be a good couples date as well if you have some friends that you like to go out with.
7. Go For A Bike Ride
Bike rides are a relaxing form of exercise where you can talk, catch up on important issues going on in each other’s life, and spend some important time together.
8. Go For A Long Drive Together
Sometimes we just go for a drive with no destination in mind. Some of our best conversations have happened during this time when we haven’t had any interruptions and just go to enjoy the company of each other.
9. Go Visit A Museum
Watch for Groupon deals, local coupons, or free days to local museums.
10. Have A Game Night
Do you have a favorite board game? Invite a few friends over and play! If you all have kids, let them play together as well. Throw in a pot luck supper and you will have a fun evening!
What is your favorite inexpensive date night? Date nights are such a fun way to grow together as a couple, I hope these ideas help some of you spend more quality time with your spouses!

This is a great list! Thursday night is date night for us and I’m taking notes! Game night is a really fun idea. At times we’ve had to have ‘in-house’ date nights at times and a great way to do that is take a snack and a favorite board or card game along with your favorite music or movie and hideaway in the bedroom all evening.
Thanks for sharing your ideas!

Netflix is what we usually do for date night! We should probably make more of an effort to actually leave the house for a date once in awhile, but we’re both homebodies! 🙂

Sometimes just getting out of the house for an hour really helps my sanity! Especially during the colder months, I need a break from being inside. A good cuddle at home with a movie is always a good date in my opinion! 🙂
