- This is a big one! We have been saving by eating out of the pantry instead of going to the grocery store! I’m not officially doing a No Spend Challenge, but it is nice to try to not buy groceries and use up what I have.
- Canning my own spaghetti sauce so I don’t need to buy any for the whole year. My garden is full of tomatoes and I’ve been trying to use whatever I can get! (My big goal is to can enough for 2 years in case my garden gets hailed next year. You never know!)
- Freezing fresh produce from my garden. This includes green beans, onions, and peppers.
- Going to the library for new books (and returning the others before I have to pay a late fee)! My family loves to read and if I kept buying books just for my oldest daughter, I’d be broke! We utilize the library for not only books but also DVD’s and magazines.
- Packing Jason’s lunch. Normally, Jason eats at home with us for lunch but he is beginning to have a side job helping a harvest crew put up silage. Not only does he not have time to stop for lunch, but it’s way cheaper to send him a meal (and tastier, too).
- Making a September Budget. I’ve been a little lax with my financial goals lately and now that we’re getting more serious about building our home I need to focus on this more.
- Clipping coupons for things on my “To Buy” list. I’m not an advocate of using coupons to buy things that you don’t normally buy but they’re great for things that you do. Jason likes a certain type of body wash. Target is running a sale right now that if you buy 3, you get a $5 gift card. When I add coupons to that, it makes the body wash much more reasonable than paying full price (almost free in the body wash example). I have found this to definitely be worth the time it takes to clip them.
- Putting together a blog binder to keep my stuff together. This isn’t technically saving a lot of money because this blog doesn’t make hardly any money, BUT it does save me time. By saving time, I can clip coupons, make food for my family or do other activities that do save money.
- Comparing prices to at the store to Amazon‘s prices. I have found that toilet paper, diapers, and other items can be purchased cheaper through Amazonthan I can buy them in the store. It just pays to know what things cost and do your comparisons!
- Clearing out clutter and selling it. This saves in 2 ways. It gets rid of stuff we aren’t using AND it makes more space in our house with less to clean up.
What is one way you are saving your family money this week?

Thanks for sharing your list! As a SAHM, I’m always looking for ways to save and stretch dollars, so it’s nice to know how others are doing it too. Sometimes its hard and frustrating to constantly be watching pennies, but I do enjoy the challenge!
