Welcome to Women With Intention Wednesdays!
Welcome to another week of Women With Intention Wednesdays!
This week I’m featuring Tia from Suits To Spit Up with her post The Day I Walked Away From it All…or Did I? Tia had the most reads last week and I enjoyed her point that many women feel their wasting their degrees when they stay home. She argued (successfully in my opinion) that God doesn’t waste anything!
I know when I first stayed home, I felt guilty about paying student loans off for a degree I “wasn’t using”. Now that I’ve been a mom for 12 years, I can guarantee I’m using that degree everyday taking care of my family!
I’m also shamelessly featuring my post The Fringe Hours: Making Time For You & A Giveaway simply because I loved the book and the giveaway ends soon! I truly feel that it’s a great manual for helping you find some time to pursue your own passions! Sign up for your chance to win your own free copy courtesy of Family Christian!
Here is what you will find at Women With Intention Wednesdays:
- This is a link up party where you come to encourage one another, have fun, and share your best posts to help women live their best life!
- In other words, any post that you have written about Christian living, homemaking, relationships, healthy living, living a frugal life or that helps another woman can be included in this link up! Please just keep them family friendly (I reserve the right to remove anything that I feel isn’t appropriate).
- This link up is beneficial for every woman! Whether you are a blogger or a reader, this is one you won’t want to miss! I’m very excited to offer this link up as a place to not only build new relationships between bloggers but also by providing an awesome resource of information for my readers!
Here are the rules of this link up:
- You must link directly to your post (no homepages, please).
- Please link up no more than 2 posts each week and please do not link up the same post week after week.
-
For every link you add, please visit the link before you and one other of your choice. If your links are consecutive visit the blogger before you and your choice for the 2nd link. It’s impossible to build relationships when no one communicates! I’ve had a few bloggers email me who haven’t had any clicks and there were more last week than any before. Please don’t link and run!
- By linking up you give me permission to share your posts and photos on this blog and social media. Each week I will choose a featured post. I will only feature and pin your post if you have followed the rules. All features will be linked back to the original source.
- You also give me permission to email you a quick reminder that the party is live. You may opt out anytime. I don’t spam my readers with emails.
- Answer the community building question below so we all get to know each other! That’s the purpose of being here! 🙂
In order to help grow this community with great posts and relationships, I would love it if you would add the party button to your sidebar, your blog directory page, or a text link at the bottom of your post. This isn’t required to participate in the link-up but I would really appreciate it!
If you were featured be sure to grab a button for your site! Thank you for linking up and sharing your great posts!

Community building question of the week: Do you have a tradition for Memorial Day?
I grew up with a family that visits the cemeteries and puts out flowers each Memorial Day. It’s a tradition I’ve tried to keep with my kids and it’s fun for them to hear stories about my Grandfather and others in our family who have passed away. We also usually do some fun activities outdoors as well as a family that weekend.
Tia from Suits to Spit Up says
We have a BBQ tradition…yummy! We love to fire up the grill, invite some friends and family over and fellowship in the Word. This is a great time to talk about the memorials of those we love and the reality of the brevity of life. Makes for great evangelism conversation.
Uh oh, Memorial Day is almost here, I guess I better get started with my food shopping .
Happy Memorial Day to All!!!

I love the BBQ idea! I’d like to incorporate that into ours when our home is complete next year. 🙂

Our oldest boys are in a local parade with the Young Marines, so we get them to and watch that. Otherwise, whatever needs to be done!
Jenny says
I had forgotten that my 3 kids in school will be in the parade and one participating in the Memorial Day service with the band. I’m glad I asked this question, better add that onto Monday’s to-do’s! Have a great weekend, Abi! 🙂
Michele Morin says
Very often someone has to march in a parade with the band — or with two trumpeters in the family, someone has to play taps. I miss the days when everyone was little and we made red, white and blue Tshirts — sponge painting, stenciling, whatever new idea I had scrounged throughout the year (this was before Pinterest or Google!). We made them on Memorial Day and then we wore them on the Fourth of July! Fun memory!
Jenny says
We have a 3 in a parade this year, I forgot to add that to the list! I love the idea of red, white and blue t-shirts! What a fun memory! I might have to try that out!

Thanks for sharing and hosting! blessings!!!

We have not had many traditions surrounding Memorial Day, though we do try to get a camping trip in if we can. This year I’m excited because we are able to take four days to camp and spend time with family. After a busy spring, with relocating or family, it is a much anticipated break.
Jenny says
That sounds great, Victoria! My son would say that you have the best idea, ever because ALL he wants to do is camp! 🙂
Bethany says
I don’t have any Memorial Day traditions, but hopefully can start some soon! I’m liking this parade idea : )
Jennie @ Little Girl Designs says
We don’t have any traditions around Memorial Day though we’ll be traveling this year to spend time with family which will be really fun! 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
Jenny says
Enjoy your family, Jennie! 🙂

Thanks for sharing this lovely link party! We always did the flowers as well and would go camping somewhere local around Lake Michigan. It was always freezing but a fun way to kick off summer. Now I live in the south but we try to do something as a family that weekend. 🙂
Jenny says
What a fun (but cold) memory! 🙂

I don’t have a tradition for Memorial Day, but I LOVE CELEBRATING HOLIDAYS! I would love to start a tradition by having a cookout every Memorial Day, but that won’t be happening this year unfortunately. Maybe soon in the near future though!
Jenny says
I would like to add that to our traditions as well! Great idea! 🙂
Rebekah says
We don’t have any specific traditions yet, but I’m hoping to create some in the future . . . I like the idea of having a cookout with family and would love to add an idea that my Mom gave me–singing hymns with family and friends and a guitar and fellowshiping together.
Thank you for hosting, Jenny! God bless you!

Following the parade in town (my parents were veterans), we used to get together with family and friends for a “beginning of summer” BBQ, often at the beach, both when I was growing up and then when my kids were young, .
Now it’s just hubby and me, and sometimes we go to his dad and step-mom’s house for a cook-out.
If I lived back in NH, I would go to the Veterans Cemetery and “visit” my parents and bring fresh flowers for their grave sites.

My mom’s family has a giant reunion the Sunday of memorial day weekend. My memories down through the years are of visiting the family cemetery nearby with my cousins and finding my great grandpa, grandma, and other relatives. I will be driving my mom and dad this weekend, as they are now dependent on me to take them, and my children and grandchildren will attend. Happy Memorial Day weekend, and thank you so much for hosting!
Laura Acuna says
We have an empty nest this year, so we will be starting new traditions! 🙂 Blessings! Laura from Laura-Acuna.com and The Manorwood Cafe

Thanks so much for hosting! And I enjoyed your thoughts about “not” using a college degree. Years ago I used to feel guilty about not *using* my English Lit degree. I struggled against the feeling that I was “just” a mom. Now that my sons are grown up and on their own, I am able to look back and see that God used me in their lives (and still does), and He is also blessing me now in Blog Land. Nothing is wasted, you’re so right!
GOD BLESS!

Thanks for the link up Jenny! I really enjoyed a few of the posts!
Our Memorial Day tradition is to get away as a family. We usually go on a hike or find a trail or a spot in the mountains. Sometimes we camp out, sometimes we just take it a day at a time. This year I have no plans other than to get away. That’s as far as we got 🙂
Jenny says
Maria, I think that sometimes no plans are better than having plans and being discouraged when things don’t go as I “think” they should! There’s definitely freedom in go with the flow!
