I apologize for being silent the last few days. We started our County Fair on Saturday. Saturday is an official day of chaotic mess! We start with checking in projects. We used Thursday and Friday to complete them and for food my oldest made a nutritious trail mix snack, banana muffins, and apple pie muffins. After we got the projects checked in it was time to finish getting the animals ready (grooming, shearing, etc) and finally transporting them and all of their food and supplies to the fair.
By the end of the day, our family had spent almost 15 hours of preparing, transporting, and getting the animals acclimated to the fair. I took the picture above right before we went home and everybody was in good spirits. We’ve been spending 14 hours a day at the fair since in order to feed them at the proper times and participating in the activities.
Our fair is always a wonderful experience but being on the go that much wears me (and all of our family) down! I caught a cold sometime Sunday evening and have been battling that since. I can’t wait for a day to do a little catch-up napping!
The twins did Peewee Sheep as one of their Clover Kids projects on Sunday. I know I’m biased but they were so cute! The judge interviewed them and you just never know what they are going to say. Our daughter told him we feed the sheep at 6:00 A.M. everyday….um no! Mom doesn’t like to get up and go quite that early and our son wasn’t shy, either! They definitely had fun and were very proud of their purple ribbons!
Our oldest daughter also showed her sheep on Sunday. She had three this year and we’ve had so much fun with them. The gray one, Turbo, will be having babies this coming winter. She’s so tame and gentle she reminds me of a Saint Bernard! The two white ones, Euni (short for Eunice) and Nibbles, were the girls’ favorites. Nibbles chews on EVERYTHING. The kids have laughed and laughed over what she will try to nibble on.
Today’s projects were serving our time helping the the 4-H food stand and then we had showmanship for cattle. This big guy is Clyde. It’s a good thing he loves my daughter because he definitely does NOT love me (and I have the black and blue foot to show it! Almost 1,400 pounds of steer on your foot is not exactly a fun time!)
We ended the day’s events with a little treat to the duck pond. The kids were pretty excited about their carnival prizes! They are lucky to have awesome grandparents who like to treat them!
Now you know I haven’t dropped off the planet but feel like I’m about there! Tomorrow is our last big day of fair and it wraps up Wednesday. I’ll be posting my goals and menu tomorrow afternoon or night. I have missed you all!
