This week started off nice and easy and ended being crazy and busy (but very fun!) We started the week with some rain and thunderstorms which led to no ball games or anything on Monday. That was great! We thoroughly enjoyed our day at home. Here are the girls doing some of their “summer school”. One of the things we’ve been working on is letter recognition. I ordered these Eureka Tub Of Letter Tiles off of Amazon to help the younger kids do letter recognition activities as well as for the twins to spell out words and play letter games with. All 5 kids had fun spelling words with these either using the flashcards or by me randomly giving them their own words to spell. Monday night the kids spent the night with my mom so Jason and I had a great date night. Our area was forecast to have severe weather on Tuesday and as we were coming home we spotted this weather chasing vehicle at one of the hotels so we had to take a peek. (I still think it looks like Gru’s car on Despicable Me, sorry for the dark photo, we took this at 11:00 at night on Jason’s cell phone!) After seeing this, I decided to take the storm warnings a bit more seriously and spend Tuesday preparing for the storm that was supposed to be coming that evening. Tuesday I got up and got to work getting my emergency kit ready. (I’m not usually real worried when it comes to storms but after watching the Weather Channel and seeing our area on the screen, I decided to get to work. In the meantime, Jason and I had decided that we were going to purchase a new-to-us vehicle and we needed to go take care of the paperwork and put it away before the storms came.
Luckily, the ball games we had scheduled for that night got canceled, due to the predicted severe storms and tornadoes. Thank goodness, we didn’t get any weather but some wind. There were many areas that were hit hard (including my hometown). We felt very fortunate that our crops weren’t damaged and the only thing we really had to clean up was a piece of siding that blew off of the house. Wednesday we were back to ball games and we were blessed to have my dad and my brother and his family come to watch. We had a nice time and got to spend some time with my adorable little nephews. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Thursday was one of those days that I wish I could have just stayed in bed. We woke up, did our school work, and then decided to take Jason to pick up one of the tractors that was being worked on in a town about 15 minutes from our house and license the new to us vehicle while we were at it. As the kids and I were driving home, I ran over a Craftsman wrench (which I couldn’t see in the gravel), popping my tire and breaking some of the plastic in the wheel well. (I have always had issues with tires and everyone in my family just laughed because the curse had struck again.) We were very fortunate that it happened right by my in-laws home and were able to park the car and hang out with them until Jason got there to take care of the tire. (After buying a new tire to put in it, I was once again thankful for our emergency fund and cash to pay for it. There was no stress involved besides me being mad at myself that I had ruined the tire!)
Friday through Sunday were a blur. Friday I was fortunate to spend the day with my mom. Saturday, we had dance rehearsal and Sunday the recital. I cried my eyes out like a little baby watching the girls perform, they were so good (not that I could be biased!) We were able to spend a lot of time with family, which is always a blessing and crashed last night with exhaustion. I’m looking forward to a new week!
How was your week? Did you do anything new or fun?
