Happy Labor Day! I hope you all had a great weekend and got to spend some time with family, friends, or doing something that you enjoy! We had a great day today and the best part was Jason was home! He’s been helping a silage crew for the last week and a half so we’ve only seen him late in the evening. Everyone enjoyed a day of shopping, a little Buffalo Wild Wings (one of the kids’ favorite places to eat), and just being together.
This week is a big one! We’re finalizing the flooring for the new house, Maddie starts her volleyball games, and we have a week before Nora goes back for a therapy checkup so she and I have worked extra hard! The kids have felt really yucky the last couple of weeks with allergies so I’m hoping that this week will be better!
What do you have happening this week?
Here are my 5 Things I Love from last week:

1. Beautiful sunrises!
I don’t know if you caught it last week, but there were a few days that when the sun came up it looked red! This week the sunrises were gorgeous and I always appreciate my view in the morning overlooking Jason’s corn (or soybeans depending on the year). To me this is what living in the country is all about. Nature is beautiful when I take the time to admire it!
2. Puppy love!
We had a fun week of loving up both Grandma’s dogs! Thursday while my mom graciously took Nora to tutoring we spent the hour playing with Mr. Buddy Moots. Isn’t he a ham? He is just a baby and so full of puppy wildness, he makes us laugh constantly. The kids are obsessed with picking him and hauling him around…probably because they are used to Lily!
On Friday, while Jason’s parents went to my nephew’s football game, we took care of their dog, Lily. Lily is a yellow lab who is 2 years old. She is also full of energy and is always doing things that make the kids giggle. When we have Lily the kids love to take her for rides in the back of Jason’s pickup or on the 4 wheeler. It’s ridiculous! 🙂 Both dogs are spoiled rotten and we love when we get to puppysit!
3. Technology!
My nephew’s football game was 3 hours away from home last Friday. Jason worked too long for us to get there in time. What was really awesome was that the opposing team does live streaming of their games! While I made supper, the kids had a blast having appetizers and watching Cody play ball on my laptop and take care of Lily while Grandma and Grandpa were gone.
4. Family!
We had such a fun night last night! We were able to enjoy an evening outside roasting marshmallows and enjoying family time with family and friends. My mom grilled ribs so our supper was delicious and then the kids got out the marshmallows! It doesn’t get any better than that!
5. The children’s museum
We love the children’s museum. I’ve blogged about it several times but one of the reasons I love it is because it’s a place where the kids can roam around independently as well as play together. All of them had a good time and it was a nice break from being home while Jason was working. Their favorite exhibit at the children’s museum is the hospital area where they have an ambulance and all kinds of hospital equipment.
Life is never dull at my house! What did you love last week?
Last Week’s Goals:
Spiritual Goals:
Make time for God each day.- Send a letter to our Compassion International child.
Marriage Goals:
Pick out countertop without arguing. (We have really different taste on this! It’s one of the very few things that we have disagreed about on the home building adventure)Have a breakfast date. (We’ve been doing this the last few weeks, it’s a great way to save some money on not having a babysitter as the kids are all at school and it’s been really nice to have some talk time without kids!)
Family Goals:
Continue Vision Therapy for Nora.Work on back to school schedule.- KonMari all of our coats. I’ve been saving this one because we have a LOT of coats. I changed my mind on this…we did TOYS instead! Whoo hoo!
Stick to bedtimes!Stay on top of allergies. My poor kids and husband are miserable!Spend some extra fun time this weekend with the family celebrating Labor Day
Homemaking Goals:
- Deep clean our back room where all the junk gets stashed. (Did the porch instead)
Fill out the calendar with school events (didn’t get this completed last week)Pick out countertop for kitchen.
Self-Care:
Watch my water intake.- Exercise 5 times and write it down in my weight loss journal. I didn’t get all 5 times in but I’m definitely aware that I feel better when I do. I’ll work harder this week!
Pick healthy choices for snacks
Personal Goals:
Snuggle with the familyCut myself some slack. Almost everyone in my house feels yucky and after dealing with their needs, I’m tired.

- Send a letter to our Compassion International child.
Marriage Goals:
- Have a date night!
- Shut computer off by 10 PM each night to have some downtime before bed.
Family Goals:
- Continue Vision Therapy for Nora. We have a big evaluation next week. I’m praying that they tell us that she will finish her therapy early! Extra prayers are appreciated!
- Stick to bed times!
- KonMari all of our coats and shoes.
- Stay on top of allergies.
Homemaking Goals:
- List 5 pairs of shoes and 5 coats on Facebook
- Get all flooring picked out for the new house.
- Take aluminum cans to recycling
- Try 3 new recipes! I will have them on Meal Plan Monday (up tomorrow…I need to rename my meal plan day!)
- Make a detailed grocery list and stick to it at the store (I’ve been slacking on this lately and ironically ran out of flour when making cookies yesterday. Did you see my Instagram disaster? Yep it was those cookies…I should have known it was bad when I had to use oatmeal after running out of flour!)
Self-Care:
- Watch my water intake.
- Exercise 5 times and write it down in my weight loss journal.
- Pick healthy choices for snacks
Personal Goals:
- Snuggle with the family. My kids are growing up and even though they are all adjusting fine to school, seem like they need extra attention right now. I want to make sure they get it!
- Cut myself some slack. Almost everyone in my house feels yucky and after dealing with their needs, I’m tired. No staying up extra late or beating myself up if I don’t get all of these done!
