Today’s decluttering challenge was to clean and declutter your living room and dining room. I sincerely hope that you were able to take on this challenge because I know how good I’m feeling that it is done! I can’t focus when all I can see is mess and clutter.
I started with my living room because it felt so claustrophobic with toys, clothes, and mess. I decided that I might as well start with right around the TV because I was tired of walking over all the mess to hook up the Atari for the kids (Christmas present they are loving it) or put in a new DVD. I grabbed 2 trash bags (one for trash and one for donations) and a basket to put in all the toys I had to pick up. The kids had the choice of leaving them in the basket (which then would be put into the donate bag) or to put the toys where they belong. I then worked my way around the room until it was back to resembling a living room.
The dining room was less messy with clutter than the living room but took a lot longer to complete. The dining room had a lot of laundry that needed taken upstairs to the proper bedrooms, Jason’s gifts which needed put away and many other items that belonged in other rooms and places. The biggest accomplishment besides just having a clean room was getting the cobwebs down out of the ceiling. Our old farmhouse is very unique and in the living and dining room both have a ceiling that looks like this. It’s sort of a shake-shingle effect going on and since the texture makes it difficult to clean. (The above picture with the wagon wheel is in our living room. )
It’s a massive chore to clean these. Swiffer dusters get stuck in the splinters as do most rags so I ended up resorting to the broom and even that didn’t work wonderfully but it’s better than it was. So if you see any in the picture, be kind!
How did you do today decluttering your living and dining room?
