It’s Day 27 of our 31 Days Of Decluttering In December challenge! We’re almost to the finish line! We’ve made it through Christmas and now are preparing for the New Year. Today I want to help you get out of Christmas mode and back into living and loving your home! Today’s challenge is decluttering and cleaning your kitchen!
Now that Christmas baking is over, it’s time to put the kitchen back together. Here are some tips for decluttering your kitchen:
- Light a good smelling candle and crank up some fun music!
- Start with your dishwasher. If it is clean, unload it! You can load up the dirty dishes as you move about the kitchen.
- Now tackle the counter tops. I hate cluttered counter tops. I am completely happy with my kitchen when there is nothing on them (this never happens!) but in my ideal world, the countertops would be clear of all clutter and be clean.
- After I do the counters, the cupboards are next. Many of our cupboards and drawers have already been done throughout this challenge. To that I say, “Whoo hoo!” and move on to the next area which is the refrigerator. We also have done this in our challenge but if yours needs done again, go for it! The dishwasher is ready to be loaded and by doing it now, it shouldn’t take long!
- Do you have a junk drawer? That is next! Many items in the junk drawer never get used. Seriously consider throwing that stuff way or putting in the donate box! Organize it the best that you can.
- Next is the floor. Our kitchen is definitely the gathering place in our home so there are always toys, shoes, backpacks and many other items that do not belong there. (I see 5 pairs of cowboy boots on the floor right now!) Once it’s clean, your room will look so much better.
- As you are decluttering here are some items that might be a good idea to donate or bless someone else with: utensils, small appliances and dishes that you do not use or have multiples of. These would include casserole dishes, mixing bowls, pie plates, and extra measuring cups that you don’t need. Also keep in mind how many people are in your house you serve. If there are only 2 of you, do you need 3 sets of silverware
- If you are looking to lose weight as a resolution in 2014, removing some or all of the junk food may be on your list to bless someone else with.
- Do you have paper and office items that need to be moved to your office area?
- Is your refrigerator plastered with artwork, reminders, and save the date cards of events that happened two months ago?
- Finally, do you have any dishes in your kitchen you only use for Christmas? Could those be moved to the basement or to a different closet or room to be stored until next year?
I’m excited to know what toys you find to declutter today! I’m looking forward to your comments or link ups! If you want to link up, snap a picture and meet back at 6 CST.
