Today’s decluttering challenge was to do a load of laundry, take out the trash (again!), catch up on your dishes, and put away 15 Christmas items! You received bonus points in my eyes if you could also find 15 items to sell or donate!
I did manage to complete this task before we took off again to celebrate Christmas again today. We left a little before noon and just walked back in the door. I wasn’t able to find 15 items to sell or donate before this post, but I’m planning on attacking the living room after I post this (if my 4-year-old will let me put him down!)
I promised I would share earlier, on Christmas Eve Mr. 4-year-old came downstairs with that excited, happy twinkle in his eyes! “Mom! Did you know that when I was a little boy, Santa came and got me? I got in his sleigh and was a little Elf with the presents?” This was my favorite for two reasons. The first is because he is just starting to tell “stories” and they all being with, “When I was a little boy….” The other is because he is absolutely obsessed with elves. He is sure they are fantastic, nice, and of course, awesome toy makers who make children happy all the time. I loved that he wants to be elf-like and be like that to others.
There were many other great moments this Christmas. The kids singing Silent Night in the candlelight was a tear jerker for mom. The twins both drawing crosses in their little church journals while listening to our Pastor. The oldest being patient and helping her siblings even though she really wanted to be opening her own presents. The youngest opening her owl presents (she pretends that she is an owl a lot! She loves owls!) and hooting and flapping her pretend pink wings each time she opened one!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and as much as I love the sentiment of Christmas, I’m very happy to have the gift part over with. I love the preparation of Christ’s birth, the Christmas carols, and the joy of gift giving but that has passed for a year, and now we’re preparing for 2014. I hope you all join me in preparing for that this week and getting ready for January!
